Petty Game Calls

Home of fine quality, hand crafted duck calls.

History

In 1952, after returning from the Korean war, William O. Petty (Bill Petty) met a man named Noah Schexnider who was manufacturing duck calls.  Mr.Schexnider needed help, so Mr. Petty came onboard.  Approximately one year later, Mr.Schexnider left for his home town of Abbeville, Louisiana.  But in that one short year, Mr. Petty had learned the art of making duck calls.  That following hunting season, he started to sell his own duck calls. But he had a growing family and he realized that the duck call business was growing as well and it would require a lot of his time.  He couldn’t possibly manage the two at once, so he decided to make duck calls a hobby in his spare time.

Over the years, Mr. Petty has experimented with different materials and techniques to produce quality products that are, unique, durable, and appealing to hunters.

Mr. Petty’s legacy continues today with his son Patrick O. Petty.  Patrick continues to make game calls that are made out of the finest materials.  Each part is hand crafted, tested, and tuned to ensure quality.

Cane Duck Calls

In the tradition of the Louisiana Cajuns of the 1800's, we continue today to make our Mallard duck calls by hand, from cane.  To achieve this, we hand pick the best cane and wood available to hand craft the best calls possible. The body and end pieces are made of cane, while the flute is made of cedar.  The reed  is made of a plastic that is just the right thickness to allow the call to perform well when blown hard, yet resist choke, even after being dropped in water.

Louisiana Purchase (Cane):

In the spirit of the centennial birthday of the Louisiana Purchase, we have named our favorite call after this famous event in Louisiana's history.  The body and end pieces are made of cane, while the flute is made of cedar.  The reed  is made of a plastic that is just the right thickness to allow the call to perform well when blown hard, yet not choke.  The brass band not only adds to the beauty of the call, but strengthens the cane to prevent cracking.

KooneY:

Our KooneY call speaks to a desire for affordable, simple tools that plain-ole work.  It is made of the same quality cane construction as the Louisiana Purchase call, however it takes on a more modest appearance without the brass band so that it still looks good, but plain ole gets the job done.

Hard wood/Shotgun shell calls

Louisiana Purchase (Hardwood):

Louisiana Purchase (Hardwood) is similar to the Louisiana Purchase (Cane), except that it is made of a hard wood and thus, does not need the brass band for strength.  The body and end pieces are made of hardwood, while the flute is made of cedar.  The reed  is made of a plastic that is just the right thickness to allow the call to perform well when blown hard, yet resist choking, even after being dropped in water.

Gueydan:

Made from a translucent shotgun shell and hardwood, this is a favorite among younger hunters because it takes less effort to blow,  and the plastic/wood construction makes the call stronger and more durable in wet conditions.
